Hershey Primary Care

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this primary care office differ from traditional primary care?

In traditional primary care, doctors are compensated based on how they code and the number of patients they see, not the quality of care provided. In the US, each primary care physician cares for an average of 2,500 patients per year. By not relying on insurance reimbursements and cutting out the red tape, Dr. Doliner will be able to decrease her patient panel size by over 90% from her previous practice. As a result, patients will get additional time with their physician; patients will have easier access to appointment times that meet their scheduling needs; patients are guaranteed to see their doctor, not another ‘provider’; and patients are able to reach out to their doctor via e-mail, text and phone.

Why should I join Hershey Primary Care?

If you want a doctor who will spend time with you, truly get to know you, and always remember you, your history and your needs—a doctor who will guide you and your healthcare choices, this is the practice for you.

How does a primary care membership benefit patients?

A membership model offers patients increased access to their primary care physician, through readily available appointments, longer appointment times, and enhanced communication channels such as video visits, text, phone and email. A set monthly fee for a pre-determined list of services means no surprise bills, copays or deductible charges. Additionally, membership model practices prioritize preventive care and patient education, leading to better health outcomes and potentially reducing the need for costly specialist or emergency care.

What services are included with membership?

Membership covers a wide range of primary care services, including visits for preventive care, acute care, chronic disease management, and lifestyle medicine. It includes in-office visits, telemedicine visits, email/text/phone access and certain in office labs and procedures (such as EKGs) when indicated.

Do you offer telehealth services?

Yes, telemedicine visits are available for those who desire them. In person visits may be required for certain conditions where a physical exam or in office testing is necessary.

How Long Is Each Appointment?

Appointment length is customized to each patient based on their needs for that visit and can run as long as 60 minutes. However, with no time spent in a waiting room and no time spend repeating the same information at check in (we know who you are!), you often spend less time overall in the office despite the fact that you are getting more time with your physician than at a typical primary care office visit.

Can I still use my health insurance?

Yes, while health insurance cannot be used for the Hershey Primary Care membership fees, patients with health insurance can still use their coverage for care performed outside the office such as specialist visits, emergency care, hospitalizations, medications, and diagnostic tests. You can also choose to obtain services, such as certain labs, at highly discounted cash-pay prices.

Do you accept Medicare patients?

Yes! Because we are opted out of Medicare we are able to accept Medicare patients, however, we do not bill Medicare, nor can the patient bill Medicare for the primary care services that we provide. Medicare can still be used to cover any laboratory testing, imaging, medications, referrals to specialists, and hospitalizations.

If I maintain good health and only visit the doctor one to two times a year, would Hershey Primary Care be suitable for me?

Regardless of your current health status, a membership model of primary care offers a compelling option for comprehensive healthcare. One of its key benefits lies in our proactive approach to healthcare, emphasizing prevention over reactive treatment. By focusing on discussions around lifestyle choices and family medical history, our membership model aims to detect and manage potential health issues before they become serious. Even minor health concerns, often dismissed due to cost or inconvenience, can escalate into significant problems if neglected. Therefore, early intervention is crucial, and Hershey Primary Care ensures timely access to affordable care without long waits or hidden fees. In fact, the cost savings from avoiding just one emergency room visit typically cover the membership fees for an entire year.

Is a membership model appropriate for individuals with chronic conditions?

Absolutely. Membership models emphasize proactive management of chronic conditions through regular follow-up visits, medication management, lifestyle counseling, and coordination of care with specialists when necessary. By focusing on preventive care and patient education, membership based primary care can help individuals with chronic conditions achieve better health outcomes and improve their quality of life.

What is lifestyle medicine?

Lifestyle medicine focuses on nutrition, physical activity, stress management, restorative sleep, social connection, and the avoidance of risky substances as root causes of chronic disease. According to the World Health Organization, 80% of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes and 40% of cancer could be prevented, primarily with improvements to diet and lifestyle. Lifestyle medicine is an evidence-based approach to treat, reverse and prevent chronic disease through lifestyle change.
